Late Summer Heat Ahead of Strong, Midweek Cold Front

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Clouds and fog have increased overnight. But a lot like Saturday, won’t stick around for long with sunshine returning by the afternoon hours.

The U.S. Grand Prix starts at 2 p.m. Sunday and the weather should be very warm and dry at COTA.

In a busy day for sport, Austin FC will host Houston at Q2 Stadium with a 4 p.m. kickoff Sunday. The early kickoff means we can count on a warm start, but a dry game is expected with the game wrapping up before sunset.

Clouds and fog increase again tonight. However, Monday will be downright hot with near record setting temperatures in your forecast.

October 25th record: Austin Mabry – 91° set in 1992
October 25th, 2021 forecast: Austin Mabry – 93°

October 25th record: Austin Bergstrom – 92° set in 1950
October 25th, 2021 forecast: Austin Bergstrom – 90°

Tuesday will be a warm one, but should remain below record setting territory. A strong cold front will march towards Central Texas overnight Tuesday with showers and storms possible. A majority of us look to pick up some healthy rains – around 0.50″ to 0.75″.

This will be a fast-moving front, with lingering showers possible Wednesday morning with afternoon sunshine. Winds will be gusty out of the northwest around 10 to 20 mph with gusts near 40 mph.

Winds calm and a quiet weather pattern sets up for the remainder of the week. A welcome return of fall weather with highs around 80 degrees and overnight lows around 50 degrees.
